Songs
In Sweden there are a lot of emigrant songs.
The songs were very popular during the the emigration period and for
some time after that. But you can still hear them be played sometimes.

We have chosen two songs which you can hear on this page. They are recorded the spring 2005 in Kisa. Artists are Alve Gustafsson and Josefine Rafeldt.

Brothers we have a long way to go

This is a song about America. It tells about how good it is in America. It is like a paradise. Hens and ducks are raining down. The sun always shine. Too bad it is so far away.

The Chicago song

A song about Chicago, the city with the largest Swedish population. Everything is big in Chicago. The city, the buildings, the streets, everything. People are living "the Happy life" there. They use cigars because there is no snuff.
