The Kinda emigration letter-project
Mrs Christina Larsson ..

and Mrs Birgit Watz working
with the letters.

The starting point for the Swedish initiative to EMILE was the emigration letter-project started by Kinda municipality and Cultural Heritage Östergötland in the year 2000.

In this project the first aim has been to make an already existing collection more available to both researchers and others. The fantastic collection of about 1 600 letters gathered by the librarian Curt von Wachenfeldt, mainly in the 1960s, was until then unused and unknown.

First thing in this project was to arrange the letters and give all of them their unique identification number. At the same time the Swedish National Archive was contacted which already had a registration programme we wanted to use.

About 2 500 letters have now been registered and scanned. In the Swedish National Archives´ website you can search among the main part of these letters and also look at the scanned pages on your own computer.

It has not been time so far to go throuh the contents of the letters. It is here EMILE suits very well.
