ABOUT THE CZECH WEBSITE Unfortunately, The Rozmberk Society, the Czech EMILE partner, does not yet have an existing public database with letters from emigrants from our region in South Bohemia, Czech Republic. We only have a few letters on display in our museum in the village of Kojakovice.
However, we do have databases about emigration to America from our region in the late 1800s. In addition, we have good contact with descendants of many Czech immigrants who settled in the Midwest states of the USA in that period.
The EMILE project offers a good opportunity to search for emigrant letters and try save whatever traces are left of the history of the emigrants leaving our region. The letters and stories will keep this part of our regional heritage alive and help restore links between descendants of the emigrants and their relatives staying behind.

The web pages concerning the Czech contribution to the Emile activities are given in both Czech and English.
These different language versions are aimed at different target groups. The Czech version is aimed at the Czech people while the English version is aimed mainly at the descendants of the Czech emigrants in America and at foreign
persons interested in Czech emigration.
For that reason, the general and introductory texts in English are not always identical translations of the Czech versions but can differ. However, the supporting documents, pictures, and translations of letters are the same for both versions.
